NISU’s Communications and International Collaborations Office (CICO), together with the College of Arts and Sciences Language Center (CAS-LC), and the Office of Gender and Development (OGAD) conducted a benchmarking activity in three prestigious universities in Davao Region on December 13-14, 2022.
     Dr. Ma Xerxa Doan P. Billones-Franco—CICO Director, Dr. Shelly Joy S. Jungco—CAS Dean, Dr. Audrey Karyl Y. Maligang—LC Director, and Prof. Lennie S. Maligang—OGAD Focal Person were welcomed by Prof. Marianne P. Afrondoza, OSA Director of University of Mindanao Matina Campus, Davao City during the benchmarking activity conducted by the group on December 13, 2022. Prof Mary Jane Lavizares of UM Matina Campus presented their University’s accomplishments for the current year and their Language Center’s programs and policies.
     The group proceeded afterward to the University of Mindanao—Tagum College in Davao del Norte and was welcomed by Dr. Evelyn P. Saludes, School Director and Vice President for Branch Operations, Prof. Hammiel Agustin-, Head of External Relations and Alumni Affairs Office and Dr. Armand James Vallejo - Program Head, BSED. Prof Agustin shared the scope and management of the External Relations Office and the innovative programs they have initiated. A tour of the college campus and the sights of the city concluded the activity for the day.
     On the morning of December 13, 2022, the group continued their benchmarking activity at Ateneo de Davao Language Center and was graciously received by the Director, Dr. Benedict V. Omblero and Dr. Stella Marie Arcenas, Chair of the Department of Language, Literature, and Arts where they shared their management strategies and language programs. The NISU representatives had the opportunity to visit ADDU’s Confucius Institute, a non-profit institute that aims to promote Chinese language and culture and support local Chinese teaching in the Philippines. Dr. Maricar Gay Panda, Head of ADDU’s Confucius Institute, and Dr. Josyl H. Aquilam, language professor toured the group within the facilities and shared the beginnings of the institute.
     The activity continued in the afternoon at Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) office with Mr. Vinci Bueza, Head of AIM. Mr. Bueza, with his staff, generously imparted their internationalization strategies and important points in managing programs and activities under their office. There was a sharing of interest for future collaborations as well.
The benchmarking activity in Davao Region yielded insights and positive discourse that would assist NISU in its future endeavors especially in the university’s internationalization goals.



      A MoU signing was conducted between NISU and University of Mindanao– Tagum College on November 28, 2022 i to foster a long-term collaboration between the two universities.

     Initiated by the College of Education of both universities, the Memorandum of Understanding covers activities such as: Faculty/Staff and Student Exchange, Joint National and International Conferences, Joint National and International Research and Publication, Joint Curriculum Development, and Sharing of Practices.
     The MOU was signed by Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, University president with representatives from UM—Tagum College, Dr. Armand James Vallejo—BSED Program Head, Dr. Mona Lisa Chagas—BEED Program Head and Prof. Hammiel Agustin- Head, External Relations and Alumni Affairs Office. Present during the event was Dr Alma R. Defacto—Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Helen A. Gasapo—Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Gilda E. Deguma—Dean, College of Education, Dr. Arthur O. Buenavista—BSED Program Chair, Dr. Ma. Xerxa Doan P. Billones- Franco—BEED Program Chair/CICO Director and Division Chairs of the College of Education.

NISU, DSWD sign MOU for Sustainable Livelihood Program

     NISU and DSWD Western Visayas revived their partnership through a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 12, 2022, between Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, University President, and Mr. Arwin O. Razo, DSWD Assistant Regional Director for Operations.

     This partnership will focus on the implementation of  DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Programs (SLP) in the fifth district of Iloilo through the University’s Extension Services, with NISU’s main and external campuses as technical support providers. This alliance will further strengthen

the services extended by the University to the community as it lives up to its slogan as an icon of hope and development.

     Witnessing the ceremonial MOU signing were representatives from DSWD Field Office VI, Mary Ann H. Masculino-SLP Regional Program Coordinator and Anthony Laruan– SLP Provincial Coordinator and the University key officials, Dr. Veminrose A. Clariza-Samuel, Director for Extension Services, Dr. Ma. Xerxa Doan P. Billones-Franco, CICO Director and the Extension Office Supervisors.


 NISU partners with Classera and C&E ALS through the Flexible Learning Ecosystem Program Grant

      A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing was held between NISU, Classera, and C&E Adaptive Learning Solutions as the former becomes the latest addition to the growing partner organizations and institutions of Northern Iloilo State University.

     Classera, Inc., an online learning management system, provides “a state-of-the-art, collaborative, and interactive learning environment capable of redefining education by bringing their unique expertise in the fields of technology and design”.  One of the super platforms in the world, it offers an all-in-one learning, transforming traditional classrooms through developing smart e-learning solutions. Together with C&E ALS, one of the biggest educational resources providers in the Philippines, they forged a partnership which aims to “engage, motivate and inspire positive learning behaviors among Filipino learners “.

     The NISU-Classera-C&E ALS collaboration entails a 6-month free partnership grant of a flexible learning ecosystem program for NISU, spearheaded by C&E ALS and powered by Classera beginning January 2023. This will further empower NISU faculty, staff and students towards a digital transformation journey in blended and hybrid learning.

     The MOA signing was held in NISU Boardroom on November 22, 2022, with Dr. Bobby D. Gerado, University President and Mr. Larry Bolivar, representative of C&E ALS. The event was witnessed online by Ms. Sara Ashraf Aldesuki, representative of Classera. Also present in the boardroom as witnesses were Dr.  Alma R. Defacto, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Helen A. Gasapo, Vice President for Administration and Finance and the Deans of the Colleges, together with the C&E Publishing representatives.


NISU in now a Mikrotik Academy

     NISU becomes one of the latest participants of Mikrotik Academy through a ceremonial MOA signing held at Paon Beach Club and Resort on November 3, 2022.

     MikroTik, an IT company based in Latvia, provides hardware and software for Internet connectivity in most countries around the world and is known for its flexible and high-quality products.  Through their MikroTik Academy Program, they offer educational institutions such as universities, technical schools, colleges, vocational schools, and other educational institutions the possibility to organize Networking classes using RouterOS as a learning tool. Students of these institutions may obtain an internationally recognized certificate (MTCNA) that confirms their academic credentials.

     This agreement allows the College of Information and Computing Studies (CICS) faculty to create a MikroTik Educational class where students are given the opportunity to obtain an internationally recognized certificate (MTCNA).

     The MOU was signed by Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, University president and Mr. Roy L. Pamitalan, Mikrotik Academy Coordinator-Philippines. Present to witness the event was Dr. Felicisimo V. Wenceslao , Jr. , Dean of CICS, Dr. Zircon  S. Culilang, Director of Management Information System, Prof. Anrem J. balontong, Network Administrator, and Dr. Felipe P. NISU Congratulates its faculty members who won and received awards in the recently concluded International Borneo Innovation Exhibition & Contest (IBIEC) 2022 held virtually in Sabah, Malaysia

Engr. Rosalie Dela Cruz, Director of Knowledge, Management, & Innovation Technology , won third place over-all and was awarded the silver medal in Construction & Material Category for her Scaffolding footing Platform for Construction Worker.


Dr. Veminrose A. Clariza-Samuel, Director of Extension Services, together with Prof. Rene June A. Belgica, and Engr. Rosalie F. Dela Cruz and was awarded bronze medal in the Green Product/Agriculture Category for their Blue Peanut Butter with Virgin Coconut oil


 Northern Iloilo State University, in partnership with Politeknik Kota Kinabalu Sabah co- organized the International Borneo Innovation Exhibition & Contest (IBIEC) 2022 held virtually in Sabah, Malaysia with the theme: Transforming Innovation Into Opportunities: Embracing IR 4.0 

The program aimed to recognize high-impact innovations and their commercial possibilities and to initiate future collaborations with institutions involved in the program’s organization, thus creating a sharing platform among the innovators participating in this competition worldwide.


  NISU joins the 55th ASEAN Founding Anniversary by participating in the ASEAN Exhibits of HEIs (Panay & Guimaras Cluster) spearheaded by WVAHEI in Robinson's Jaro last September 26-30, 2022.


Representing the country of Singapore, NISU showcased the country's prominent landmarks in the exhibit. Supervised by NISU Ajuy Campus, livelihood products from partner communities were also displayed during the opening ceremony. In attendance during the closing ceremony was University President Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo, Key Officials and Faculty of NISU.


 Northern Iloilo State University is now a Certiport Authorized Testing Center! 

NISU partners with INNOVATIVE TRAINING WORKS INC., in bringing major certification programs in the fifth district by being a Certiport Authorized Testing Center, delivering opportunites for faculty and students to access internationally recognized certification programs. A Memorandum of Agreement was signed on September 23, 2022 by the University President, Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo and IT Works Country Manager, Felix Christopher Alegre III.

A MOA signing converged between NISU, represented by the University President, Dr. Bobby D. Gerardo and Huawei Philippines, represented by Mr. Wang Chen (Leon), Huawei Visayas Regional Manager on August 9, 2022 at Northern Iloilo State University.
